Kay:

Welcome body contouring professionals!  Kay here.  Both Shannon and I thank you for being here too.

We love being your mentors.  Helping you to save time sharing the knowledge that took us years to acquire.  But to be effective, mentors need to be a little bit of a pain in the neck too.  Like today.  Reminding you that you must be an expert in the fundamentals before you can move on and grow.  And for those of you who are brand new, just starting out.  This episode will get you started the right way.

So speaking of getting started.  Let’s do it.  This, you already know.  Adding body contouring treatments can dramatically increase your client base and your revenue… and starting in body contouring can give you the dream life it gave us….but finding all the basic information you need to do it can be difficult and confusing.  Heck, even our book Body Contouring 101 doesn’t cover the basics as concisely as we’re going to give it to you today.

This is what we’ll do today.  We’ll discuss the non-invasive body contouring technologies, the levels of body contouring machines and the body concerns that bring clients to your door.  So…welcome to the intro to non-invasive body contouring!

First, let’s get some basic

Terminology and Definitions covered.  We’ll answer questions nearly everyone has.

What is non-invasive body contouring?

What’s the difference between non-invasive body contouring and surgical body contouring?

What’s the difference between body contouring and body sculpting?

What is non-invasive body contouring?

Non-invasive body contouring encompasses the use of specific non-invasive technologies to optimize

The shape (reduce or enhance)

The definition (lift, enlarge, enhance)

The smoothness

The tone

And

The condition (detox) of the body.

Non-invasive body contouring includes

Fat Reduction

Skin Tightening and Smoothing

Muscle Toning and Enhancement

Cellulite Reduction

Buttock Enhancement

Stretch Mark Reduction

Detoxification (Lymphatic System Assist)

Next question

What’s the difference between non-invasive body contouring and surgical body contouring?

The answer may seem obvious but listen carefully as we define each of these Non-invasive body contouring treatments

Are performed on the skin surface and do not involve incisions or cuts to make improvements to body concerns

Can be performed by a non-physician

Surgical body contouring treatments/procedures involve an invasive procedure (incisions, cuts, skin penetration) or actual surgery to improve a body concern. They are performed by physicians,

No surprises, right?  But it defines each very clearly.

And the next question clears up confusion held by so many

What’s the difference between body contouring and body sculpting?

The terms body contouring and body sculpting are interchangeable.  They are the same thing.  Both are used to describe a wide range of aesthetic procedures to improve body concerns.

Both terms, body contouring and body sculpting, can include both surgical and non-invasive procedures.

In addition, bodybuilders use the term ‘body sculpting’ to describe sculpting the body with weightlifting and diet.

That’s it for the basic terminology and definitions.

So let’s move on the body concerns

Body concerns that non-invasive body contouring treatments can address

And there are 8 official body concerns that

non-invasive body contouring can  improve

And what clients want us to do

Buttocks - enhance, lift, shape

Cellulite - minimize and smooth

Detox - eliminate excess fluids, toxins and waste

Hip Dips - reduce the hip dip appearance

Loose (flaccid) Skin - firm, tighten and smooth

Muscles - define, build, strengthen, firm and/or tone

Stretch Marks & Scarring - minimize, reduce, smooth

Unwanted Fat - reduce, shape and sculpt

Did you notice what we didn’t mention?  What’s not on the list?

First of all.  Breasts are part of the body, but they are not on the official non-invasive body contouring treatment list.  Yes, patients do ask about treating them…to lift and enhance them.  And yes, some providers do treat them.  We do not.  We stick with official body contouring treatment areas and body concerns.

Also, what about the neck, the double chin, the hanging jowls?  The neck is on the official body contouring treatment area list, however we use Level I (medical grade) equipment for this area. A warning about this area.  It contains critical anatomy and you have a higher possibility of injury so recommend that beginners steer clear until they have some experience.

And finally, the face.  The face is definitely not included as a non-invasive body contouring concern or treatment area,  Can you treat the face?  Yes, of course.  But it is not a body contouring treatment.

We have body contouring certification courses that include protocols to treat all of these 8 official body concerns.  We’ll leave a link in our show notes to our current list of courses if you want to learn more about what treatments are available for these concerns.

Now that we’ve covered the body concerns and treatment areas, let’s move on technologies

What are the 12 non-invasive body contouring technologies?

A little background…

Before a body contouring technology is authorized for use in the US, the FDA reviews the technology for safety and effectiveness for its intended use.

authorization for use was in:

Keep in mind when we are talking about technologies, we are not talking about machines that deliver the technologies.  We move on to machines next.

Also, we’re keeping it basic - we’re simply defining the technologies today

We do cover these technologies in depth and detail in our body contouring certification courses

So if you’re interested in that information, You can use the link to the course page to learn more - it’s in our show notes.

We’re discussing the technologies in alphabetical order

Cryolipolysis

Also referred to as fat freezing

Cryolipolysis technology uses cold temperatures to kill fat cells to reduce fat in the treated area and sculpt the body

Most well known brand name device is Coolsculpting

Next up are the technologies that fall under the category of

Light-Based Technologies

These technologies all work using light energy - cold or hot

First up

Infrared Light

Infrared light technology emits mid, near and/or far infrared energy

Increases metabolic rate and calorie burn to promote fat reduction

Produces sweating to promote total body detoxification

Can be delivered via many systems: blankets, sauna booths, waist wraps

Laser Lipolysis (Thermal, Heat)

Utilizes a specific (:

Destroys fat cells to reduce fat in the treated area and sculpt the body

Most well known brand name device is SculpSure

LED, Light Emitting Diode (Non-Thermal, Cold)

Aka low level light therapy, cold laser and red light therapy

Uses low doses of visible light (635 - 650 nm wavelength) to induce a process called photobiomodulation (PBM) which provides multiple benefits:

Reduces fat, minimizes stretch marks and smooths cellulite

Well known brand name devices include Zerona, Celluma

We have another category of technologies up next and that’s

Magnetic Field Technologies

First up

Electromagnetic Muscle Stimulation (EMS)

Electromagnetic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) technology utilizes magnetic fields to produce intense muscle contractions Improves muscle tone, strengthens and builds muscle

HIFEM (High-intensity focused electromagnetic technology)

HIFEM technology utilizes magnetic fields to send electrical currents to build and tone the muscles and shape the body

d body contouring technology (:

Well known brand name device is Emsculpt

Kay:

Okay, so we’ve covered cryolipolysis, the light based technologies and the magnetic field technologies, up next is another category of non-invasive body contouring technologies

Mechanical or Vibration Massage Technologies

First up

Pressotherapy

Also known as pneumatic compression technology

Utilizes a bodysuit to apply alternating compression and decompression on the body

Increases blood flow and lymphatic circulation, stimulates                                                            lymphatic drainage.

Vacuum Therapy

Vacuum therapy technology combines negative pressure technology with massage and cupping.

It can provide multiple benefits.  Reduces superficial fat deposits, minimizes cellulite, increases lymphatic drainage, plus enhances the buttocks.

Well known as the ‘non-surgical BBL’ (Brazilian Butt Lift).

Vibration Therapy

Vibration technology produces vibrating side-to-side, up-and-down and back-and-forth motions which generates up to 6G of force upon the body

The body responds to this force with a continuous flow of muscular micro-adjustments

Results in increased lymphatic function, muscle building, increasing bone mass, cellulite smoothing and weight loss.

The next technology stands on its own; there are no others in its category and that’s

Radiofrequency

Radiofrequency (RF) energy emits electrical energy that produces a

controlled heating on the skin.

(1) The heat from the RF technology promotes new collagen and elastin growth

resulting in a tightening of the skin.

(2) In some RF machines, the heat from the RF technology can penetrate

beneath the skin to heat and destroy fat in the treated area. But this is not the case in all RF machines

Well known brand name devices include Thermage, TruSculpt id

The final two non-invasive body contouring technologies fall under the category of Sound Wave Technologies

In alphabetical order

Acoustic Wave

Aka sonic wave and extracorporeal shockwave

Acoustic wave technology disrupts and damages fat cells causing fat reduction

Stimulates collagen and elastin to firm and smooth the skin

Can be used for cellulite reduction

A lymphatic assist treatment for post-fat reduction

Ultrasound Cavitation

Aka ultrasonic cavitation, fat cavitation or simply ‘cavitation’

Ultrasound cavitation technology emits sound waves that penetrate into the body and form bubbles around the fat cells that burst and destroy fat cells and reduces fat and sculpts the body.

Okay, so that wraps it up for the 12 non-invasive body contouring technologies.

But what about the different machines or devices that deliver these technologies?

There are hundreds of these machines, but what you need to determine for all of them is this.  What level of machine or equipment do they fall under?

There are 3 levels of non-invasive body contouring machines or devices, and these are

Level I - Medical Grade

Level 2 - Paramedical Grade

Level 3 - Entry Level

Let’s break each Level down.

Level I  Medical Grade Equipment and Devices

But Level III is entry level is also great for experienced or even medical providers.  We use both Level I and Level III equipment at our med spa.

How do you get body contouring certification for Level III Medical Equipment?

Education and training is not provided by Level III manufacturers.

Education and certification must be obtained separately.

Examples of Level III Medical Equipment

6in1 Cavitation machine

Vacuum Therapy machine

Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing) machine

We discussed quite a bit today.

We have a lot to offer in non-invasive body contouring, right?

It’s no wonder that the treatments have been soaring in popularity.

So consider our next question as rhetorical.

Is non-invasive body contouring profitable?

Heck yes!  It’s certainly given us a great life.

Don’t take our word for it.  Listen to these numbers

% a year between:

Businesses that added body contouring services already have seen an over 60% increase in their client base.

Body contouring adds a significant jolt in potential income as well as client base.

Listen carefully to this

at that rate, you’ll earn $:

So Here’s some closing advice.

First, If you’re planning to launch non-invasive body contouring services soon or you want to start a body contouring business soon, consider getting some education and earning your body contouring certification.  We have the link to our current list of courses handy for you in our show notes.

Second, save this episode.  Listen to it again once in a while.  Put in that time and work to be the best.

Third, if you haven’t done it yet, but hope to someday.  Remember there will never be a better time than now to get started.  There will always be something that makes it seem a bad time.  That holds you back.  But you’ll always have a job, a family, a lack of time or money, and whatever else is getting in your way.  Now is the time to figure it out and get started so tomorrow you can have the life you want.

That wraps it up for today guys.  Until next time, Beautiful Wishes
