Why you should use vibration therapy before body contouring treatments (in addition to after)

Throughout our twenty-something medspa years, we’ve incorporated lymphatic booster treatments for our non-surgical body contouring patients.    Most body contouring practitioners recognize the need for post-treatment lymphatic support…but they rarely think about pre-treatment lymphatic support.   Compare that to most plastic surgeons, who recommend lymphatic booster treatments pre and post body contouring surgeries (liposuction surgeries especially).    It’s vital that body contouring professionals recognize the benefits of pre-treatment lymphatic boosting treatments.  So we discuss them in this article.  We also dive into post-treatment lymphatic support and detail one of our favorite lymphatic booster treatments, vibration therapy.  We think that after reading this article, you’ll be convinced to incorporate vibration therapy before body contouring treatments in your practice (in addition to after).

Here’s what you’ll learn in this article:

What does the lymphatic system do?

  • The lymphatic system holds three important roles within the body.
  • The role that relates to body contouring?
  • The lymphatic system is solely responsible for eliminating wastes, toxins and excess fluids from the body.

How does the lymphatic system eliminate wastes, toxins and excess fluids from the body?

  • The lymphatic system is made up of a network of lymphatic vessels that carry a fluid called lymph fluid.
  • Lymph fluid is composed mostly of water, but also contains waste, toxins and excess fluids that need to be eliminated from the body.
  • These lymphatic vessels run in the body alongside blood vessels and carry lymph fluid to the lymph nodes for filtering, and then eventually filtered out of the body via sweat, urine and bowel movements.
  • Blood vessels move blood via the pumping action of the heart, but the lymphatic vessels do not have a pump and rely on the body’s movement to move lymph fluids.
  • This lack of a pump can lead to problems, especially with non-invasive body contouring treatments.

Why is the lymphatic system critical in body contouring?

  • Without pumping action, the lymphatic vessels rely on the movement of the body.
  • That’s why modern day sedentary lifestyles make it difficult for the lymphatic system to function efficiently and optimally.
  • Many, if not most of our patients operate with inadequately functioning lymphatic systems.
    • They come to us for body contouring; we perform a non-invasive fat reduction treatment like fat cavitation, fat freezing or lipo laser, which use ultrasound cavitation, cryolipolysis and low level laser respectively, to reduce fat cells.
    • But our patients do not leave our business looking sculpted.
    • Instead, before inch reduction can be seen, our patients’ lymphatic systems have to take those damaged or destroyed fat cells and other waste, and filter it all out via the lymphatic system for elimination from the body.
    • When will reduction be seen?  Some patients may start seeing reduction from lymphatic excretion in about three weeks post treatment, but it can often take up to six months - or more.  The difference in timing?  The lymphatic system.

What are lymphatic booster treatments?

  • Lymphatic booster treatments are treatments that support and boost the patient’s lymphatic system function.
  • Most lymphatic booster treatments are powered by natural and holistic body contouring technologies that boost both the blood circulatory system and lymphatic system function.
  • Here’s a few examples: Vacuum Therapy, Pressotherapy and Whole Body Vibration Therapy (which we’re recommending today and discussing soon).

Why body contouring patients need lymphatic booster treatments

In an ideal world, our patient’s lymphatic systems would not need our support, either pre or post treatment.  But…our modern world and present-day lifestyles impede lymphatic function and increase lymphatic congestion.

The lymphatic system needs

  • Movement, i.e. daily walking (not sitting all day on the job and all evening on the couch)
  • Adequate water intake (not sodas and alcohol)
  • Low stress levels (free from chronic stress, money and childcare concerns, traffic problems)
  • Proper nutrition (not fast food, processed food, excess sugars and fats)
  • Clean air (free from pollutants, chemicals and additives)

So…we help our patients with…

Pre-treatment lymphatic boosting and post-treatment lymphatic boosting

Pre-Treatment Lymphatic Boosting Treatments (like vibration therapy before body contouring treatments)

  • Pre-treatment lymphatic boosting preps the body for the body contouring treatments by improving pre-treatment lymphatic function so as to ensure optimum elimination of the fats, fluids and toxins that our treatments leave behind
  • Bottom line.  Pre-treatment lymphatic boosting will improve results - dramatically.

How and why pre-treatment lymphatic boosting treatments improve results:

  • To begin with, areas that are predisposed to stubborn fat (treatment areas) tend to have more lymphatic congestion.
  • This means the treatment area(s) and the surrounding tissue is already overloaded - full of waste, debris, toxins and fluid.
  • Pre-treatment lymphatic boosting treatments help to evacuate much of this pre-existing excessive waste and debris and leaves behind cleaner, healthier tissue which responds much more favorably to treatments and delivers optimum results.

Post-Treatment Lymphatic Boosting Treatments

  • Post-treatment lymphatic boosting supports the patient’s body during the treatment series and after treatments by improving the lymphatic function so as to ensure optimum elimination of the fats, fluids and toxins left behind from the treatment (which is necessary to realize inch reduction).
  • Bottom line.  Without lymphatic support, your patient could wait a very long time to see results.

Whole Body Vibration Therapy

(check out why you should use vibration therapy before body contouring treatments and after)

What is Whole Body Vibration Therapy, aka Vibration Therapy

  • Whole body vibration therapy (WBVT) is a passive exercise therapy in which your patient stands on a vibrating platform that engages up to 98% of the muscle fibers with rapid up-and-down, side-to-side and back-and-forth motions.
  • This vibrating motion produces intense but comfortable muscle contractions that stimulate both lymphatic drainage and blood flow.
  • A typical ‘treatment’ or program on the machine runs a short ten minutes.

What we love about Vibration Therapy before body contouring treatments, during and after

  • See why vibration therapy is a favorite of ours!
  • It’s so easy and flexible:
  • No need to block out a treatment room.  Vibration therapy platforms can be placed in public areas.
  • No appointment necessary.  It’s an easy walk-in treatment.
  • Vibration therapy sessions are enjoyable.  And they don’t take more than ten minutes.  That makes it super easy for your patients.
  • While your patient ‘vibes,’ it’s easy to reinforce education, introduce new products and treatments, and strengthen your relationship with the patient.

Final Thoughts

Most body contouring professionals are aware of the need for lymphatic assistance after body contouring treatments. But not enough is known about the importance of prepping the lymphatic system before the treatments. And it’s important.

Ideally, your patient should initiate body contouring treatments with a perfectly functioning lymphatic system. But modern day lifestyles lend themselves to a poorly functioning lymphatic system and the initiation of treatments with a pre-existing congestion of fluids, toxins and waste in the treatment area.

From the information in this article, you know you can change that. Very easily. You can use vibration therapy before body contouring treatments - in addition to during and after.
