We hate to say it because there are so many positives about it but Ozempic strikes again!  We’ve talked about the downsides of this easy way to lose a lot of weight.  And we’ve talked about how so many of your body contouring clients are using it.  Today our focus is on the really bad side effect of losing way too much lean muscle mass along with the fat.  For every five pounds lost, 1.5 pounds of that is muscle!  That’s not good.  Here’s the deal.  Your clients are ecstatic with their weight loss and many don’t yet realize they are losing valuable muscle mass.  As body contouring professionals we can (and should) help them with that - with education and treatments.  That’s our focus in this episode today.  Whole body vibration therapy.  That’s right.  In the body contouring world, it’s not just for lymphatic drainage anymore.  In today’s episode, we’ll tell you how you can use vibration therapy to restore and build muscle.  We’ll explain exactly how vibration therapy works to do that, talk about why muscle loss is so bad, break down how vibration therapy actually builds muscles and of course, we’ll give you the easy way to earn certification in whole body vibration therapy so you can immediately start helping your clients restore lost muscle mass.  Stick around and tune in!

Hi I’m Shannon and I’m Kay and we’re your hosts of The Proven Profits Podcast

Kay:

Hi there healthcare professionals, business owners, body contouring technicians and beauty professionals!  Welcome everyone!   Kay here. Shannon and I want to thank you for being here too!

Medical progress has inspired innovation in the body contouring world.  Chances are a big portion of your body contouring clients are on a weight loss journey (and most of them using Ozempic-like injections).  But with that weight loss, close to thirty percent of every pound your clients lose is lean muscle mass.  Let’s make that relatable.  For every 5 pounds lost, a pound a a half of that is lean muscle mass.  And guys, muscle loss is bad!  So here’s the deal.  Your clients may be ecstatic with their weight loss and may not even realize they’ve lost muscle.  But listen up.  Your role as a body contouring professional is to educate them about this and help them restore that muscle loss...for the entire time they’re losing weight.  And the good news is you can do it easily with a body contouring therapy you may already use - Whole Body Vibration Therapy (WBVT) - did you know this passive exercise (that we body contouring professionals already use), well you can use it’s vibrational actions to force muscle contractions (and ultimately produce muscle growth).  That’s right.  A new treatment in response to the medical breakthrough of Ozempic and all of its counterparts.

And we’re gonna tell you all about it in today’s episode.  We’ll discuss how you can use vibration therapy to restore and build muscle, we’ll explain how vibration therapy works, tell you why muscle loss is bad, detail how vibration therapy builds muscles and we’ll tell you the easy way to earn certification in whole body vibration therapy so you can immediately start helping your clients restore lost muscle mass.

Let’s dive in.

You probably know why most body contouring professionals have used whole body vibration therapy.  We’ve used it in our medspas for ten years now.

Whole body vibration therapy delivers many benefits (which we’ll cover later), body contouring professionals have traditionally thought of and used whole body vibration therapy in the context of lymphatic drainage (to help deliver best results for fat reduction treatments).

You think of whole body vibration therapy as a lymphatic system booster.

That’s because it is.  Non-invasive fat reduction treatments kill or damage fat cells…but the results will not be seen until the client’s lymphatic system eliminates the fat from the body (via the lymphatic system)..

The passive exercise of vibration therapy stimulates lymphatic circulation, which optimizes and accelerates results from fat reduction treatments like cavitation, cryolipolysis and lipo laser.

But…

Vibration Therapy also works as a Muscle Building and Strengthening Treatment

Because weight loss brings about a loss of lean muscle mass, body contouring professionals should incorporate the use of whole body vibration therapy to restore the lost muscle, using certification in whole body vibration therapy to accomplish that.

Let’s review how Whole Body Vibration Therapy (WBVT) works

Whole Body Vibration Therapy machines produce bio-mechanical vibrations that cause powerful, yet comfortable, muscle contractions.

These vibrations move in three ways (1) up-and-down; (2) side-to-side and (3) back and forth, to  stimulate the entire body.

Specific to restoring lost muscle and building new muscle, the waves of vibrational energy from the vibration therapy machine work to stimulate, contract and relax muscles.   These vibrational energy waves go through the whole body (hence the name whole body vibration therapy) and affect every muscle in the body.

Moreover, vibration therapy affects every system of the body - including muscle, bone, circulatory, respiratory, lymphatic and cognitive systems…all in a positive way…and by doing so provides multiple benefits.

The multiple benefits of whole body vibration therapy (WBVT)

Here is a list of benefits that whole body vibration therapy can provide.

Improves Lymphatic Function

Strengthens and Builds Muscles

Improves Circulation

Reduces Cellulite

Improves Flexibility

Builds Bone Mass

Promotes Weight Loss

Improves Cognitive Function

Promotes Relaxation

Improves Balance

If you want more information about these benefits, check out our blog article, A handy guide to using whole body vibration therapy for weight loss support.  We’ve left a link to that blog article in today’s show notes.

Now’s a good time for us to ask a question.

Maybe you’re interested in certification in Whole Body Vibration Therapy…

but you don’t have a machine and you don’t know where to start

ines in our medical spa since:

We own two of them…and keep them busy all day!

We will leave a link to a machine very similar to what we use in today’s show notes so you can take a look.

Back to the good stuff.

Here’s how weight loss can lead to a loss of lean muscle mass

When the body isn’t getting enough energy from food, first - it will pull fat reserves for energy.

But when weight is lost quickly, the body next pulls the energy it needs from the muscles.

The more weight lost in a short period of time, the more muscle mass lost in addition to fat.

You may be wondering why muscle loss is so bad

Muscle loss affects quality of life and overall health

Muscle loss is not good because it significantly reduces strength and mobility, as well as overall health.

Loss of muscle leads to a lower metabolic rate, which adversely affects weight management, i.e. gain weight more easily.

Muscle loss makes everyday activities such as cleaning the house, gardening or climbing stairs more difficult.

Loss of lean muscle mass increases the likelihood of falling.

Muscle loss leads to bone loss which leads to an increased risk of fractures.

Muscle loss from dieting can lead to sarcopenia and can happen at any age

The medical term for muscle loss is referred to as sarcopenia, and it’s most commonly associated with people over the age of sixty.

Thus, sarcopenia is commonly referred to as age-related muscle loss.

PRO TIP

Here’s something you may not know.  And you won’t consider it good news.

A person of any age can develop sarcopenia.

Most of the research and literature regarding muscle loss focuses on age-related muscle loss.

The findings of these studies are applicable to younger people because muscle loss is muscle loss at any age, whether it’s brought about by aging or dieting.

How whole body vibration therapy strengthens and builds muscle

As discussed earlier, whole body vibration therapy builds and strengthens muscles with the use of vibrational forces.

Take a look at the three primary mechanisms of action that build and strengthen muscles.

Muscle Contractions

The vibrating energy causes rapid contraction and relaxation of every muscle in the

body.

Increased Blood Flow

The vibrating energy produces increased circulation that provides the muscles with more  oxygen and nutrients to support maximum muscle growth.

Neuromuscular Stimulation and Adaptation

The vibrating energy trains the body’s nervous system to recruit more muscle

involvement and produce more power.

This isn’t just us saying this.  Research supports the use of vibration therapy to restore, build and strengthen muscles.

There are many many studies examining the muscle mass building power of whole body vibration therapy.  Here’s a couple of examples.

Research publications studying whether or not vibration therapy sessions improve muscle loss concluded that vibration therapy does improve muscle strength and physical performance.

Other studies have shown that Whole Body Vibration Therapy increases muscle mass, as well as muscle strength.

PRO TIP

If you are you a science nerd (like us), you can see tons of vibration therapy research in our blog, Vibration Therapy for cellulite?  A science-based discussion for professionals.  We’ve left a link for that article in today’s show notes.
